Hot Weather !
Dear Parents and Carers,
As temperatures are forecast to remain high throughout this week, I wanted to reassure that we will continue to take every reasonable step to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils whilst they are in school.
We successfully managed the previous period of hot weather and will continue to follow Department for Education and Croydon guidance, adapting our daily routines where necessary.
Throughout the week we will:
- Keep children out of direct sunlight as much as possible, particularly during the hottest part of the day.
- Reduce or amend outdoor activities where appropriate.
- Encourage children to drink water regularly throughout the day and allow frequent opportunities to refill bottles.
- Keep classrooms as cool as possible by using fans, opening windows where appropriate and closing blinds to reduce heat.
- Make use of shaded areas whenever children are outside.
- Monitor children closely for any signs of overheating or discomfort.
How parents can help
- Please send your child to school with a named water bottle. Insulated bottles or bottles containing ice are ideal, as they help keep water cool throughout the day.
- Please ensure your child has sunscreen applied before arriving at school. If you wish your child to reapply sunscreen independently, please send a clearly named bottle that they can apply themselves.
- A named sun hat is also strongly recommended.
We recognise that some families may feel particularly concerned during periods of extreme heat. As we did during the recent heatwave, parents who feel it is in their child’s best interests may collect their child from 1.30 pm each day this week. If you choose to do so, please inform the school office so that we can ensure a safe and orderly
Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We will continue to monitor the weather and will keep you informed should any further changes be necessary.
Kind regards,
Mrs Josephine Copeland
