HOW THE GOVERNING BODY IS COMPOSED
Every term we have a Full Governors Meeting when every governor is expected to attend. Any governor can put on the agenda an item about the working of the school. To help us carry out our duties we have a number of committees. Each committee has terms of reference that are agreed by the full governing body. These terms of reference state the responsibilities of the committee and the decisions they can take. Each committee meets at least once a term. These are;
The Resources Committee. This committee is responsible for monitoring the school budget and other financial matters such as acting on recommendations of audit checks. The committee also is responsible for staffing matters and the maintence and upkeep of the building, It is also responsible for Health and Safety matters.
Education, Curriculum & Pupil Voice Committee. This committee is responsible for monitoring the learning, teaching and pupil standards of achievement. It monitors the progress that children are making and closely looks at the performance of particular groups such as boys/girls, special needs, children who are supported through the pupil premium, EAL children to make sure that all children are achieving their best. As a church school it also monitors the quality and contents of Collective Worship and Religious Education.
Welfare, Parents & External Relations Committee. This committee is responsible for the safety and well being of pupils, the links with parents, All Saints Church and the local community. It works with parents in encouraging them to become involved in the life of the school, It monitors the attendance of pupils and monitors how the school is supporting vulnerable pupils and parents. It also receives reports on the behaviour of children, including any exclusions and examples of outstanding behaviour.
There are also other groups of governors that are particularly responsible for school matters. These include;
Staff Performance Review Committee. This committee of 3 governors receive reports on the annual performance reviews of staff, including the head teacher and any recommendations on pay.
Head teachers Performance Management Team. This consists of 3 governors who are supported by a member of the Southwark Diocesan Board of Governors. They set the annual targets for the head teacher and review progress throughout the year and decide at the end of the cycle if these targets have been met.
Admissions Committee. Keeps the admission policy under review and how it is being implemented.
Safeguarding Governors. 2 governors are qualified in monitoring the safe guarding checks the school makes on staff. They study the records held on staff and make recommendations.
Faith Committee This group of governors with staff and pupils meet to support the school in developing its Christian ethos. It looks at the R.E. curriculum, collective worship and how the Christian values of the school are embedded in the daily life of the school.
To get their own perspectives on the life of the school governors spend a morning in school every term. During this visit we meet staff, observe teaching, look at children’s work and attend assemblies
As we are a Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School the majority of governors are called foundation governors. Their main responsibility is to ensure that the school stays true to its Christian Foundation. The majority of foundation governors are appointed by the Church Council of All Saints Church, Upper Norwood as the Church founded the school way back in the nineteenth century. Two other foundation governors are appointed by the Diocese of Southwark, the Diocese is the geographical area in which the school is situated.
Other governors represent the school staff and the local community which also includes parents.
These include one local authority governor chosen by Croydon Local Authority, one co-opted governor, an elected teacher governor and a governor to represent the support staff.
Two governors are elected by the parents of the school.
Father Leonard and Josephine Copeland are ex-officio governors because of their positions, Vicar of All Saints Church, Upper Norwood and Head teacher of the school.
