On the 22nd June 2023 we celebrated Windrush Day with an assembly where children sang a Windrush song as a whole school.
In class, children took part in a variety of interesting activities ranging from: recreating the artwork of of Caribbean artists, such as Althea McNish and Hurvin Anderson; creating music; writing poems; researching on computers to write fact files and making boats. What a wonderful range of learning opportunities to mark this significant event!
‘There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.’ Proverbs 23:18 The 22nd June 2023 marked the 75th anniversary of the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks. It is a day to celebrate, honour and remember many families from across the Caribbean islands who came to the UK to help rebuild the country following the war and mark the major contribution they made to this country and continue to do so. As a council, Croydon have raised the Windrush Flag to acknowledge and celebrate that legacy and contribution.
